Eric, I have to say I love the site however I have to ask a question about a post made on June 8, 2000 about "low cost server motherboards." It reads " Recently, I helped a friend of mine spec out a system based upon the Abit BP6 motherboard (the one and only dual processor Celeron motherboard on the market) ...." Unless I am wrong here there is a motherboard made by MSI for a cost around $185 that not only features Dual socket 370 chips but also have Promise's ATA 100 IDE controllers built on. I recently built a small file server and used this board and as a matter of fact I liked it so much that I upgraded my system to a Dual (FCPGA) PIII 733/320MB RAM/27GBs HDDs.. I am almost positive that this board was available at the time of the post and may have filled in an answer to some of the post questions.. see Microstar 694D Pro-A. Thanks, Kris Maerke, MCP Kris,Good catch….They announced the board on June 5, 2000 (Microstar 694D Pro-A Press Release), but I hadn’t heard the announcement and I doubt they were actually available…..As for going with this board, from the way it looks, it is superior to the Abit BP6. Thanks for the informal recommendation of the board, I know a number of readers will be interested in testing it out for their own low cost server. Eric Svetcov |
