Kris Maerke

Eric,

I have to say I love the site however I have to ask a question about a post made on June 8, 2000 about "low cost server motherboards." It reads " Recently, I helped a friend of mine spec out a system based upon the Abit BP6 motherboard (the one and only dual processor Celeron motherboard on the market) ...." Unless I am wrong here there is a motherboard made by MSI for a cost around $185 that not only features Dual socket 370 chips but also have Promise's ATA 100 IDE controllers built on.  I recently built a small file server and used this board and as a matter of fact I liked it so much that I upgraded my system to a Dual (FCPGA) PIII 733/320MB RAM/27GBs HDDs.. I am almost positive that this board was available at the time of the post and may have filled in an answer to some of the post questions..

see Microstar 694D Pro-A.

Thanks,

Kris Maerke, MCP

Kris,
Good catch….They announced the board on June 5, 2000 (Microstar 694D Pro-A Press Release), but I hadn’t heard the announcement and I doubt they were actually available…..

As for going with this board, from the way it looks, it is superior to the Abit BP6.

Thanks for the informal recommendation of the board, I know a number of readers will be interested in testing it out for their own low cost server.
