Eric, Subject: Intel reeling at AMD's performance article (ed. note: this article was published on AMDWORLD and not on IThell.com) You are dead on. AMD is running circles on Intel on execution. You are probably aware by now you can buy a 1 Gig. T-bird for $266. However, this is not a price war. AMD passed Intel's price/performance ratio up a long time ago. AMD now owns the high end. It might take a few months for others to realize this, but that is the cold, hard reality. After reading a multitude of articles, it is my conclusion that Intel cannot manufacture their 1 Gig in volume, so dropping their price to even be 30% more than AMD's price is out of the question unless Intel wants to have the largest shortage in their company history. I believe AMD knows/suspects this and is going for the jugular on Intel's high end. I think AMD is lowering their high end CPUs to make the best value the 1 Gig. Just like Ram manufacturers price ram so that a certain amount of memory is the cheapest per megabyte, even so AMD is doing that with their high-speed cpus. This should have the effect of raising their ASP and induce greater profitability during the year of 2001. Disclosure: I own AMD stock. Intel needs to get their act together quickly. Another year of poor execution could result in some serious problems for Intel. I also enjoyed your 10 reasons why Craig Barrett should be fired.
