Windows 2000 Expo Report - Part 2 If it has to do with computers for your small business or remote office, just outsource IT: One stop IT with CenterBeam.
March 10, 2000 by Eric Svetcov
The concept of outsourcing everything in IT kinda scares me - I like the control and flexibility of being able to pick and choose solutions that fit my exact needs. However, upon close inspection, the CenterBeam concept of supplying a standard selection of computers, wireless networking, printers, servers, backup, 24 x 7 support, security and Internet connectivity is one every IT professional should know about. The CenterBeam option is like another blade for a pocket knife. Sure, it may never come in handy, but if you need it for a small business you are consulting for or a remote branch office, it can be the tool that is an exact fit for your problem.
The CenterBeam solution was the most compelling new idea of the February Windows 2000 Expo in San Francisco. There was nothing else at the conference that might create a more fundamental shift in the way IT jobs are performed than the service that CenterBeam can provide to small businesses. A completely outsourced IT solution that manages and maintains the IT infrastructure remotely is a completely new option for the small business owner and is a new and viable option for small companies with basic computing needs.
Before CenterBeam there were two choices for a small business after deciding to purchase or lease the hardware/software from a desired vendor:
Now there is a third choice - One stop IT with CenterBeam. Pay a single monthly fee that includes the hardware and software your company requires as well as all the services of an internal IT staff, consultant and ISP. This is extremely compelling to a small business owner - especially if the price is right. And at $165/person each month (all inclusive), the price has been right for 20 companies so far.
